ABOUT US

Ellipse Surveying is a local Canberra business run by brothers, Cody and Ben Love. 

After years of discussing business ventures, Cody and Ben both decided to embark on a journey together and establish Ellipse Surveying. 

 

As a result of their combined skills, attention to detail and hard working attitude they have created a well respected business.

Since beginning in 2021, they have created a large clientele list.

The team at Ellipse Surveying approach their work with respect, dedication and accuracy. The company's shared goal is to provide high quality and reliable services to all customers.

Cody Love

Project Surveyor 

 

Cody has enjoyed working in the dynamic environment of construction surveying. During this time, he studied an Associate Degree in Spatial Science, majoring in surveying at the University of Southern Queensland. He finds it rewarding to deliver accurate and precise work for clients, applying knowledge from his studies, field experience, and the latest technology.

His hobbies include camping, Rugby Union, and skiing. He has played for teams like Uni-Norths Owls, Daramalan Eagles, and the Jindabyne Bush Pigs, and he cherishes spending time outdoors with his family and friends.

Cody prides himself on being a skilled problem solver, quick to find solutions, and approaches challenges with intelligence and determination. He cares deeply about his colleagues, fostering a supportive environment. He takes pride in understanding clients’ needs to provide the best solutions and the highest quality services.

Ben Love
Project Surveyor 

Ben completed his carpentry apprenticeship with a high-end residential builder, where he developed a strong attention to detail and learned the importance of dedication and precision. These skills have greatly contributed to his success as a surveyor over the last 5 years.

 

Growing up in the Snowy Mountains, he developed a passion for skiing and Rugby Union, continuing to play for the Uni-Norths Owls and Daramalan College since moving to Canberra.

 

He loves working in a team, especially alongside his brother, and thrives on finding solutions in challenging situations. Outside of work, Ben enjoys making furniture from recycled timber and cherishes spending time outdoors, camping with friends and family.

Greg Gibson
Registered Surveyor

 

Growing up in Port Moresby, PNG, Greg was inspired by his architect father and a family friend’s surveying career. This led him to pursue a Bachelor of Surveying, becoming a Registered Surveyor in NSW in 1995

With over 40 years in the industry Greg is a wealth of knowledge. He is our very own walking encyclopedia. He has worked on major rural subdivisions, transmission line easements, and complex strata projects across NSW and the ACT. Greg is dedicated to mentoring young surveyors, sharing his experience, and guiding them through every stage of their surveying journey.

We’re incredibly lucky to have Greg on our team. His depth of knowledge, and commitment to quality make him an invaluable asset to both our staff and clients.

Outside of work, Greg enjoys park runs, walking his dog, gardening, and home renovations. He also loves catching up with friends, especially over a round of golf.

Sam Pearce

Senior Surveyor & Team Leader

Sam grew up on a farm in Cooma, where he developed a love for the outdoors. After high school in Sydney, he completed a Bachelor of Spatial Science (Honours) in Surveying and has since worked across the Snowy Mountains, South Coast, Sydney, Wollongong, and Canberra.
 

A natural leader, Sam leads by example and is always willing to help where needed. He has slotted into the team seamlessly, bringing a proactive mindset and eagerness to contribute to discussions that help the company grow. He thrives on the mix of indoor and outdoor work, taking pride in seeing projects come to life. His experience includes bridge setouts, high rise developments, and large scale subdivisions.

With a keen eye for detail and a problem solving mindset, Sam is a valued member of the team. He always gets the job done to a high standard, and his enthusiasm makes him a great asset.

 

Outside of work, he stays active with gym and running, enjoys riding his motorbike, and loves spending time with his wife and young son.

Thomas Konarski

Survey Technician

 

Thomas is a newly graduated college student eager to learn and work in a fast pace environment. Throughout his time in college, he attended an extra curricular Astrophysics course at ANU and was a finalist in the BHP Science and Engineering Awards. He is now completing his Bachelor of Surveying at UniSQ.

 

Thomas decided to pursue a career in surveying as the idea of a job that lets him work both indoors and outdoors, using math and computer programs like CAD, really appealed to him.

 

In his free time, Thomas loves spending time outdoors, enjoying nature, whether it's biking, running, fishing, or going on hikes.

 

We are grateful to have such an intelligent and hard working team member join us. Thomas is always quick to learn new aspects of the trade and is always eager to assist.  We are excited to work with such a wise and respectful young surveyor. 

Sam Cocks

Survey Technician

Sam developed an early interest in engineering and surveying. Selected as one of 100 students in NSW for an elite engineering exploration program, he later pursued a Diploma of Surveying at TAFE to turn his passion into a career.

Sam is a determined and eager learner, always asking questions and showing genuine interest in expanding his knowledge. His positive attitude and enthusiasm make him a great person to be around and work with. He enjoys the ever-advancing technology in the industry and being part of shaping the built environment. His strong background in high-level mathematics helps him assist his supervisors in precise equipment manipulation and planning.

A member of the Geospatial Council of Australia, Sam is committed to professional growth and becoming the best surveyor he can be.

In his free time, Sam enjoys going to the gym and working on cars, always keeping busy with hands-on projects.

Joshua Gray

Survey Technician

 

Born and raised in Canberra, Joshua is currently studying an Associate Degree in Surveying at UniSQ after completing Year 12 at St Mary MacKillop College.

Joshua enjoys the diversity of surveying, from working in different locations to tackling new tasks each day. His background in CAD, architecture, town planning, engineering, geography, and mathematics has helped him quickly adapt to the field. His attention to detail is one of his greatest strengths, often picking up on things that others might miss. This quality will take him a long way in his surveying career and ensure his work is always of the highest standard.

Joshua has previously worked in customer service roles, developing strong teamwork and strategic thinking skills. He fits in well with the team, and we are lucky to have him.

Joshua also enjoys playing golf, mountain biking, and outdoor activities like camping.

Lachlan Ives
Survey Technician 

 

Lachie developed an interest in surveying through his love of hands-on work and problem solving. Born and raised in Canberra, he completed Year 12 at Erindale College in 2020, where he received an Excellence in Academics Award and found a passion for mathematics and design.

After four years working in formwork, Lachie discovered surveying as the perfect fit. His experience on construction sites gave him a strong understanding of tools, plans and site processes, which he now applies to his surveying work.

Lachie is a motivated and collaborative team member who enjoys the balance of outdoor work, technical problem solving and working alongside others on site.

Outside of work, Lachie enjoys going to the gym, playing rugby for Uni-Norths Owls and heading to the snow for a snowboard whenever he gets the chance.

Laura Martin

Project Support Officer

Laura has a Bachelor of International Relations, Politics, and Law and plays a key role behind the scenes by managing finances, as well as WHS and HR matters.

Laura previously worked at a law firm based in Canberra and decided to leave that industry to help the team grow Ellipse Surveying.

 

Her creativity shines as she helps Ben and Cody run their charity fundraising events, where she enjoys getting inventive. She enjoys planning the events and loves the idea that the team are constantly raising funds for charities important to them. 

 

Outside of work, Laura loves camping, reading, and capturing memories through photography, especially of friends and family. We’re fortunate to have such a talented problem solver and organised team member who keeps everything on track.

Anna Corkery

Project Support Officer

After earning her Bachelor of Education, Anna became a dedicated primary school teacher, a role she continues to balance part-time while offering essential support to our company.

 

Her willingness to assist with financials and project management, regardless of how complex the task, demonstrates her commitment and reliability.

 

Known for her cheerful and upbeat personality, Anna brings a positive energy to the workplace that lifts the entire team.

 

When not working, she enjoys camping, coastal trips, and spending quality time with her family and her beloved Border Collie, Percy. We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a hardworking, talented problem-solver who ensures everything runs smoothly

Greg Purvis

Senior Surveyor & Drafting Specialist

Greg Purvis, owner of On Point Surveying & Drafting, partners with Ellipse Surveying to provide additional expertise when needed. Based in Albury, Greg travels to Canberra to assist on projects, bringing his wealth of knowledge and extensive experience to the team.

Greg grew up on a farm in Central West NSW, near Eumungerie, where his early experiences pegging out contour banks with a dumpy level sparked his passion for surveying. He went on to complete a Diploma of Surveying at TAFE NSW Newcastle and an Associate Degree in Spatial Services (Surveying) from USQ.

With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Greg has worked across cadastral, construction, civil, drone, and high rise surveying, with a strong focus on survey drafting. His expertise includes large scale residential and rural subdivisions, as well as iconic projects such as Parliament House, the War Memorial, and numerous high rise developments in Canberra and Sydney.

Greg is known for his patience, kindness, and ability to bring great energy to any environment. His extensive knowledge, coupled with his willingness to share it, makes him an invaluable mentor and a valued member of the team.

Outside of work, Greg is an active member of the Gerogery Rural Fire Service and one of NSW’s first accredited RFS drone pilots, assisting with search and rescue and thermal imaging. He enjoys spending time with his family, camping, fishing, and crafting metal and woodwork projects, including welded garden art with his son.
